Nivalis Nights opening walkthrough: Ramen Noir to your first business permit

Thaddeus Carminus speaking to the player inside Ramen Noir

To reach your first business permit in Nivalis Nights, get Ramen Noir serving meals, complete Agent Teleshko’s Business Empire assignment, and return to Brooke Hazard after reporting his scheme. The permit opens four possible venues. Before taking on another shop, use the Docks quests to secure a boat and start growing ingredients for your existing kitchen.

Ramen Noir needs a working menu and a stocked kitchen before you can afford long trips away. From there, Seafaring opens The Stacks, Green Thumb supplies your first crop, and Business Empire leads to expansion. You can also fish at the Docks for ingredients and saleable catches while the onions grow.

Take over Ramen Noir and make the seats usable

Leave the apartment and take the cab to Meridian Market. Follow the introductory objective to Thaddeus Carminus at Ramen Noir and finish the handover conversation. Ava, the executive assistant who speaks through your HUD, then guides the setup. Banor is the person to speak to at the restaurant as its opening tasks progress.

Press P with the default keyboard bindings to enter furniture placement. The introduction asks for two tables and four chairs. Place them inside Ramen Noir’s boundary, with each chair beside a table. An isolated chair cannot serve a customer.

The placement preview explains why an item cannot go down. If it says “Not valid property,” bring the item back within Ramen Noir. If it says “Need to be placed next to a table,” move the chair close to a table. Rotate or reposition the furniture until the preview becomes valid, then place it and check the objective counter. There is no need to buy replacement chairs to solve either message.

Set the first menu and put ingredients in venue storage

Interact with the restaurant monitor and open the Menu tab. Move Chicken Noodle Soup from Known Recipes onto the menu. Its ingredients are Chicken, Onions and Ramen Noodles. A furnished dining room with an empty menu still leaves customers without anything to order.

Speak to Banor when the tutorial sends you back to him. The initial supplies let you begin service, but you will soon need to replenish them. Open the shopping list with L to see ingredient demand. It distinguishes what you carry from what the venue already holds, so use the shortage shown for Ramen Noir when deciding how much to buy.

Meridian Market’s food vendors cover these first ingredients. Check the greengrocers for onions and the farmers for chicken and ramen noodles. If you cannot remember who sells an item, the Known Characters menu lists discovered vendors, their locations and their stock. Selecting an ingredient from the shopping list can also take you to the relevant item when you open a vendor’s trading screen.

Buying food puts it in your personal inventory. Back at Ramen Noir, open its storage and transfer the purchases into the venue’s Cupboards or Refrigerators. Items marked “Should be kept in the fridge,” including chicken, belong in refrigerated storage. Use the transfer controls to move the required amount, or Transfer All when the whole purchase is intended for that restaurant.

A shortage that remains after shopping often means the food is still in your pockets. Check the venue’s storage before making another purchase. Inspect fresh and decaying batches separately, since they can occupy different rows and both take up space.

Get recipe tips, then expand the kitchen’s workload

Banor’s introduction sends you to Nola Berg, Dagmar Fitz and Marius Mitchell for recipe advice. Track their objectives in the Journal and speak to each about cooking. These conversations introduce the other business owners while adding options beyond the first soup. Return to Banor afterward; he asks you to hire a waiter to help with service.

Recipes also turn up on brightly colored menus lying on boxes, benches and similar surfaces. Inspect those papers while moving between objectives. Once a recipe is available, compare its ingredients and appliance requirements with your current kitchen before adding it to the menu. A recipe unlock alone does not provide the stock or hardware needed to serve it.

Adding a pork ramen beside Chicken Noodle Soup brings more ingredients onto the shopping list. Introduce dishes as you can supply them, checking the new shortages and appliance requirements after each menu change. That keeps a recipe unlock from turning into an order the kitchen cannot fill.

Popularity Tier 2 raises Ramen Noir’s limits on tables, staff and menu items and lets you increase meal prices. Open the Menu tab to adjust a dish’s price and inspect the Statistics view for local preferences and exclusivity. Increase prices in steps and watch the restaurant’s takings and customer response. An identical price for every recipe ignores differences in ingredient cost and local demand.

Hire workers and give them usable equipment

The venue’s Staff tab and recruitment terminals let you inspect available workers. Compare their skills with the work you need done, then assign their roles. Hiring someone does not settle whether they should cook, wait tables or clean. Check those role selections after recruitment and review their working hours.

Keep a cook covering meal service and use a waiter as the restaurant gets busier. A cleaner helps with the mess that accumulates during service. If you add a second cook to improve throughput, provide another Food Processor so the cooks have their own workstations. Two names on the roster cannot compensate for insufficient kitchen equipment.

Longer shifts cost more because wages are hourly. They also reduce satisfaction and productivity, and persistently unhappy staff can leave. Before adding another employee, look for gaps or excessively long shifts in the schedule. Shorten an overworked employee’s hours, share the shift between workers, or raise pay to help with morale.

Finish the Noodle Bar Expansion objectives

The expansion task asks you to serve 20 guests, buy and install a Drink Machine, add a drink to the menu, hire a manager, discuss the business with Banor, add two decorations and add a plant. Several of these can advance while you explore, provided the restaurant has ingredients and workers.

Buy the Drink Machine from a hardware vendor and place it in the kitchen using furniture mode. Once it is installed, add a drink in the restaurant’s Menu tab and stock the ingredients that drink requires. The machine, a menu entry and its ingredients are separate parts of the task. Use the “Decoration” tag at furniture vendors to find suitable decoration items, then place those and a plant inside the restaurant.

The manager becomes available at venue level 3 and handles grocery restocking and staff morale. You still buy larger equipment and furniture yourself. After hiring one for the objective, compare the day’s purchases with the food actually used. A launch-period community guide reports excessive produce buying by managers. If your stock piles up, take over restocking until you can keep purchases in line with service.

Check stock and reviews before leaving for the Docks

The monitor’s Reviews tab helps separate food complaints from slow service. For a dish that cannot be served, check its ingredient rows and required appliances first. For queues with a stocked kitchen, inspect cook coverage and Food Processors, then waiter coverage. Spending on decor will not solve a missing ingredient or a kitchen bottleneck.

Large perishable orders can create a second problem even when you can afford them. A launch-period community guide reports that cooks prefer fresh stock, leaving older batches to spoil. When fresh food sits beside entries marked “Decays in < 2 days,” take out the aging batch and sell it while it still has value. Remove spoiled food to free storage space.

Ingredient prices fluctuate, and the vendor screen shows the bonuses affecting the transaction. Compare the final purchase price and the batch’s freshness before confirming a large order. A greenhouse is useful for ingredients you repeatedly consume, but it takes time to produce food. Leave enough stock at Ramen Noir to cover the next outing instead of expecting newly planted onions to serve the next customer.

Watch the curfew countdown during late errands and return to your apartment to sleep. At night, Ava also explains the day’s profits and debt interest. You can put 5%, 10% or 15% of the day’s profits toward the interest. Account for that payment alongside wages and restocking when deciding how much money is available for expansion.

Register Putter and reach The Stacks

When Ava passes on Salt Pete’s call, track Seafaring and take a taxi to the Docks. Speak to Salt Pete and complete the maritime registration conversation. Then follow the objective to Karl “Crabface” Jones near the boat. The boat is Putter, and the registration is what lets you take over as its captain.

Board Putter and interact with the helm. Use its displayed steering and throttle controls to leave the berth. The “Discover a new area with your boat” objective requires a district transition. Head through a marked tunnel across the water; the opening route leads to The Stacks. Sailing around the same stretch of water without entering a transition will leave that objective unfinished.

Arrival in The Stacks advances the discovery objective. Bring Putter to a marked berth to dock, then return to Salt Pete at the Docks when the Journal asks for that conversation. This trip also opens the district containing Boat Hangar, one of your later Tier 1 business options.

Keep track of where you leave Putter. Fast travel moves your character while the boat stays at its last location, including a place offshore. Docking before you travel away makes the next boat trip easier to resume.

Use Ady’s rod for the first fishing order

You can begin fishing from the shore while you are at the Docks. Walk down the ramps from the taxi platform toward the fishing trawler and small boat. Boardwalk Ady fishes on the pier beyond them. Speak to him to receive a Rusty Fishing Rod.

Equip the rod by opening Inventory with I and selecting the hand symbol beside it. With water under the crosshair, cast using the left mouse button. Watch the face indicator: blue shows you are waiting for a bite. When it changes to amber, reel in with another left-click. A yellow-green result means you caught something, while red means the attempt failed. You may pull up rubbish as well as fish.

Look for visible glowing fish and cast near them. For a particular species, compare its color in the fishing guide with the fish in the water. The guide begins with Burbot, Pike and Stickleback; catching the fish in a tier reveals information about the next tier. A new rod does not automatically fill in all those location and condition entries.

Return to Ady after your first catch. His opening order needs two Burbot, one Stickleback and three Pike. Keep those fish for the hand-in, bring them back to him, and complete the request to gain access to the Underground Fish Market. Sell unwanted catches promptly: freshness affects the price, so leaving them in inventory through other errands reduces what you can earn.

Plant the first onions in Greenhouse 2B

Follow Green Thumb to Clem Hortelano at the Docks. Ask about growing food and start with onions. Clem provides Onion Seeds and directs you uphill to Thaddeus’s old greenhouse. Use this quest route to Greenhouse 2B before spending money on one of the neighboring units.

Enter 2B and find its Root Farming Module C. Interact with the module and choose “Grow Onions” from the crop wheel. The module must support the crop, and the matching seeds must be in your inventory. If the wheel lists a seed requirement, check that you received or bought the correct seeds. Choosing an unrelated crop will not advance the onion objective.

The greenhouse monitor has Modules, Conditions and Upgrades tabs. Modules shows what is planted, growth progress, yield and speed. The Conditions controls require Farming Level 4, so you can begin the first crop while those sliders are still locked. Once you can adjust conditions, an ingredient’s Details panel lists its preferred temperature, humidity and light. Match the settings to the crop you are growing.

Tend Ramen Noir or follow another objective while the crop grows. When the module is ready, harvest it for onions and seeds and check that “Plant and Harvest Onions” reads 1/1. Green Thumb then sends you back to Clem. Transfer the harvested onions into the restaurant’s storage before expecting the cooks to use them.

When buying more modules, check the ingredient’s Details panel for its compatible module types. Root modules cover crops such as onions, while meat production uses different equipment and inputs. C modules are the early option; B and A classes require more farming skill. Expand around ingredients your current menu consumes, leaving enough money for kitchen stock and wages while the next harvest grows.

Complete Business Empire and collect the Tier 1 permit

Speak to Agent Teleshko near Ramen Noir in Meridian Market when you first encounter him. After time advances to the next day, Ava tells you he wants another conversation. Return to him and follow the Business Empire dialogue about a CLICC, the license for increasing capital through commerce. He sends you to Brooke Hazard.

Travel to Lowtown and follow Brooke’s quest marker to the food stall. Finish the conversation about his revoked license and proposed workaround, then return to Teleshko in Meridian Market. Keep tracking Business Empire in the Journal so you do not confuse it with Teleshko’s other conversations.

Brooke’s scheme involves a supposed license sale to his brother. You can try to help him by lying, but Teleshko already knows enough to expose that account. For the honest route, tell Teleshko you spoke to Brooke, continue the discussion of the scheme, and disclose the claimed sale to his brother. This route improves your relationship with Teleshko and unlocks the Cheeseburger recipe.

Finish Teleshko’s conversation, then return to Brooke to tell him about the revoked CLICC. The permit is awarded after that follow-up. Stopping after the report to Teleshko leaves the last conversation undone. Once you have returned to Brooke, Ava discusses the new business options and the Journal adds the rental objectives.

Choose a Tier 1 venue and inspect its rental terms

The permit opens these four business options. Access to each district is a separate requirement, so obtaining the permit will not immediately transport you to every venue.

Venue District What to check next
Boat Hangar The Stacks Finish the boat discovery trip, then find the venue’s rental screen.
Sake Bar Central Canyon Reach the district and inspect the key screen at the business.
Yummy Canteen Industrial District Unlock district access before planning the supply trip.
Yakitori Helix Monumental Reach Helix Monumental and check the property’s costs.

Find the small digital screen with a key icon at the venue and open its rental panel. Check the equipment value, the payment to start renting and the daily rent before confirming. Keep money aside for ingredients and wages, since the initial property payment leaves those operating costs still to come.

Prepare the second venue’s menu, storage and staff after taking it over. Keep Ramen Noir supplied during that setup, and distinguish the venues in the shopping list so ingredients go to the correct kitchen. If the rental cost would leave you unable to restock the first shop or pay its workers, continue operating Ramen Noir and growing its recurring ingredients before accepting the new property.
