Unforeseen Incidents Chapter 1 Walkthrough

Before Leaving the Area: Click on the dumpster, then on the PANTYHOSE.

Up the Steps: Examine the car and compressor. Go left and head back down to the lab.

After speaking with MacBride, he invites you to stay with him in Port Nicola. However, before you go, he asks for your help with a plan and gives you a PROTECTIVE SUIT to alter. He also requests that you take a look at his car and hands you the CAR KEYS.

Try Delivering the Envelope: Go up two sets of stairs to a sign advertising the Seagulls vs. Racoons game.

Take the CABLE and PAINT.

Go to the Hotel: Click on the broom closet near the reception desk to take FISH FOOD, AQUARIUM HOSE, and KILL-IT BANG (detergent).

Talk to Morton: Morton informs you there is no guest named Helliwell and won’t let you check the register. You learn that he wants to impress a date by becoming more knowledgeable about football, but can’t leave the desk to watch the game.

Distract Morton: Leave the hotel and head to the junkyard. Pick up the TV from the pile of electronic scrap near the washing machine (the TV has a built-in VCR).

Return to the hotel, give the TV to Morton, then use the CABLE and ELECTRICAL TAPE from your inventory to plug it in. The TV doesn’t work, so click on it twice and use the multi-tool screwdriver. It needs soldering.

Before leaving the hotel, go downstairs and talk to the bartender to discover he won’t serve you beer without ID.

Go home, go upstairs, and use the TV on the soldering iron. While you’re there, pick up the ID from the pants.

Back at the hotel, give the repaired TV to Morton and click on it to discover you can’t access the sports channel.

Go Back Down to the Bar: Click on the old football game videos, but there’s not enough info on the labels. The current game is between the Seagulls (Port Nicola) and the Racoons (Blue Ridge). Talk to the fans until they mention a previous year when those teams played.

Take the VIDEO TAPE marked 1986, go upstairs, and use it on the TV.

Now that Morton is occupied, you can use the FISH FOOD on the aquarium for an achievement.

Find Helliwell: Click on the swing door at the reception desk, then on the newspapers to get the PORT NICOLA TIMES and YELLTOWN TIMES. Examine each in your inventory to see the phone numbers for their editorial offices, then try calling them from the phone on the left.

You suspect Helliwell is staying at the hotel, so check the guest book, which lists names and room numbers. Try to read the small white card with the phone number for the front desk (555-2368) and hotel rooms. You can now call the rooms directly from the front desk.

Since you know Helliwell is a woman, try calling each of the 4 female guests to figure out who she might be posing as.

Tip: A journalist might be most interested if you tell her, “I read an interesting article in the paper today…”

Decode the Message: Helliwell (also known as Ursula James) agrees to meet you. Go to the bar and talk to her after handing her the envelope. She retrieves a ‘coded message with symbols’ from it, which you recognize as referring to radio wave frequencies.

After making a copy to get the NOTE, return to your apartment, go upstairs, and click on the radio.

Click on the NOTE in your inventory for a close-up. The top number indicates the ‘station’ the radio needs to be tuned to.

Adjust the radio by clicking and dragging the large dial at the bottom right until the red marker matches the gauge on the left. If needed, click on either the FM or AM buttons to change frequencies. Adjust the three sets of dials on the top right.

The numbers vary, but here’s an example (Note: the small light next to the lower AM button is lit when 655.9 is set on the bottom row of the gauge).

Once adjusted, back out from the radio to hear a broadcast. If you don’t hear anything, click on the radio again and adjust the tuning slightly.

Once the radio is tuned, Helliwell arrives to listen.

Talk to Helliwell: In the bar, Helliwell explains why she’s in disguise and shares information about Senator Sylvia Thurlow.

While in the bar, buy a BEER.

Fix the Car: Go to the car, use the car keys to open the hood, and examine the missing parts: battery, fan belt, spark plugs, radiator hose, and coolant. The radiator is copper-brass with a G stamped on it. The oil level is fine.

Go to the Junkyard: Pick up the PAINT ATOMIZER near the trailer on the far right side of the junkyard. Talk to Leroy about the car parts. Give him the beer and ask again.

  • Coolant: Leroy mentions the copper-brass radiator; choose the inorganic one beginning with G to get G18 COOLANT.
  • Fan Belt: Leroy doesn’t have one, but you may be able to rig one.
  • Battery: Look at the old junk to get the BATTERY.
  • Radiator Hose: Look at the ancient junk and grab the RADIATOR HOSE.
  • Spark Plugs: Click the crane lever; it’s stuck. Tell Leroy, then head to the car.

Take the JAR from the shelf, and use the multi-tool scissors on the AQUARIUM HOSE in your inventory to get CUT AQUARIUM HOSE. Use this on the oil tank to get OIL.

Back at the junkyard, use the oil on the crane lever. Click the lever, then on the dropped car engine to get the SPARK PLUGS.

Use the PANTYHOSE (from the dumpster) on the fan belt pulleys.

Copy the Bio-Suit: Look at one of the posters around town to see the needed materials. Use the multi-tool scissors on a poster to get the RHC INSIGNIA. In inventory, use the multi-tool pincers on the glue to open it, then use the glue on the RHC INSIGNIA to get a STICKY RHC INSIGNIA. Apply this to the protective suit.

In inventory, use the KILLIT-BANG on the PAINT ATOMIZER. Use the atomizer on the paint, then on the compressor. Finally, apply the PROTECTIVE SUIT to the paint atomizer to get the DISGUISE.

Go to the Lab: Tell MacBride that the car is fixed and the suit is ready, but he doesn’t know the location of the RHC camp.

Go to the hotel bar and talk to Helliwell.

Sneak into the RHC Camp: MacBride has already given you a SYRINGE. Talk to Helliwell, and she gives you a CAMERA.

Approach the fence and speak with the guard who asks for ID. Go back and talk to MacBride and Helliwell.

While Helliwell distracts the guard, use the multi-tool pincers on the fence and enter the camp.

Take photos of the nearby hut, chapel, and crates. Open the tent on the left and take a photo.

Yelltown: Watch the guards. The goal is to get one of the canisters containing the virus. Blend in with the guards’ movements to get the PAINT ATOMIZER.

Wait for the guard to move from Harper’s position, then move into that gap. Once there, click on the paint atomizer as soon as the guard on the right starts walking towards you, and use it on the nearest guard.
