Monster Hunter Wilds’ First Big Update Brings New Monsters, Arena Quests, and… Barrel Bowling?

Alright, Monster Hunter fans, buckle up—Capcom just dropped the deets on Wilds’ first big update, and it’s got a bit of everything. New monsters? Check. A whole new hub? Yep. Time-attack Arena Quests to flex on your friends? Oh, you bet. And best of all? It’s free.

Welcome to the Grand Hub—Where You Can Fight, Chill, and… Bowl?

So, after you grind your way to Hunter Rank 16, you unlock this new social zone called the Grand Hub. It’s basically a hangout spot where hunters can mess around with stuff like arm wrestling and… Barrel Bowling. Yeah, you heard that right. You roll barrels into targets, and if you score high enough, you get rewards. No idea how this fits into the whole monster-slaying theme, but hey, why not? Also, if you’re into the lore, the Grand Hub is apparently some kind of sacred place where people worship, and at night, there’s a diva who sings. No word yet if she takes requests, but I’m hoping for some Monster Hunter Lo-Fi beats.

Arena Quests—Speedrunning, but Make It Monster Hunter

If you think you’re fast with a longsword, Capcom is putting that to the test. Arena Quests are all about clearing specialized hunts as quickly as possible, with leaderboards so you can see where you stack up against other players. There are limited-time Challenge Quests too, which means more chances to flex. The kicker? You’ll be using pre-set gear for these, so no cheesing it with your OP build. And if you’re more into casual chaos, there’s a Free Challenge mode where you can bring whatever loadout you want and team up with up to four hunters.

Mizutsune’s Back—Prepare for Bubble Hell

Longtime fans will recognize Mizutsune, the slippery Leviathan that fights using, of all things, bubbles. (Seriously, if you’ve never fought it before, get ready to slide all over the place like you just stepped on a banana peel.) It unlocks at Hunter Rank 21, and if you’re feeling extra brave, the Tempered version shows up at HR 41.

Arch-Tempered Rey Dau & The Return of Zoh Shia

For the real masochists out there, Capcom is dropping Arch-Tempered Rey Dau on April 29. You’ll need to be at least HR 50 to take it on, and if you survive, you get to forge the new Rey Dau Gamma armor set. And speaking of punishing fights, Zoh Shia—aka the first final boss of Wilds—is now farmable. Because nothing says “fun” like getting obliterated by massive energy blasts over and over again.

A Free Glow-Up for Alma (And Your Camp, Too)

On the non-monster side of things, you can now change Alma’s look, and there’s a free new outfit for her. Oh, and if you finish a certain side quest, you can even swap out her glasses. Big fashion moves happening in this update. They’re also bringing back some classic Monster Hunter gestures for free, plus a Cosmetic DLC Pack if you feel like dropping some cash.

Mark Your Calendar—April 3rd Is the Big Day

This whole update drops on April 3, 2025, and, again, it’s totally free. So whether you’re here for the Grand Hub vibes, the Arena Quests, or just want to get your face smashed in by an Arch-Tempered monster, there’s something for everyone. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to start prepping for Mizutsune because I already know that thing’s going to send me flying.
