How to Unlock Perilous Trail
Perilous Trail has specific unlock requirements, as well as some recommendations for an optimal experience.
Prerequisites for Perilous Trail
To start Interlude Chapter, Act Two, you must meet the following criteria:
- Adventure Rank: At least 28
- Event Requirement: Begin the Perilous Trail event
- Quest Requirement: Complete Chapter One, Act Three: A New Star Approaches
Additionally, you need to complete the Chasm Delvers World Quest to start the Perilous Trail event.
For the best experience, Hoyoverse recommends completing the following quests:
- Imperatrix Urbosa Chapter Acts One and Two (Raiden Shogun’s Story Quests)
- Taurus Iracundus Chapter: Act One (Arataki Itto’s Story Quest)
- A Teapot to Call Home
If you haven’t completed these recommended quests, you can use the Quick Start feature on the Perilous Trail event page to instantly begin Interlude Chapter: Act Two. Just be aware that this may lead to mild spoilers for the corresponding story quests.
The Unexpected Guest
Once you’ve cleared the prerequisite quests or chosen the Quick Start option, Paimon will mention her curiosity about the crystal you purified at the end of Wherefore Did the Heavenly Stone Descend, triggering the The Unexpected Guest quest in your journal. Make sure to allocate enough time to complete this quest, as it includes lengthy cutscenes.
Teleport to the waypoint in the Chasm Underground where the giant needle is located (the area where you purified the five mechanisms), and glide to the center of the chamber, where you’ll find Yanfei. After the events unfold, you will enter a new chamber.
Speak with Yelan to trigger another scene and complete the quest. Upon finishing, you’ll receive:
- 500 Adventure EXP
- 22,000 Mora
- 2 Hero’s Wit
- 4 Mystic Enhancement Ore
Chasmic Maze – Perilous Trail Domain
The Chasmic Maze picks up right where The Unexpected Guest left off, outside the mysterious domain.
The domain preview page recommends bringing a Hydro character, but it’s also wise to include either:
- A Cryo character
- A Healer
- A Geo character for shields
You will encounter the usual Hilichurls and Mitachurls, along with some Pyro Slimes, but the final battle will be against two powerful Geovishaps that will infuse themselves with Pyro.
The domain includes several switch puzzles where you must rotate platforms to progress through the labyrinth. The first switch needs to be turned once. After ascending the staircase (after Paimon wonders if an Adeptus is nearby), turn right and go down another staircase. Defeat the enemies, open the Exquisite Chest, and rotate the switch three times.
Climb the staircase again until you reach another switch. Rotate it once to flip the platform upside down, opening a path to another switch. Defeat the Hilichurls and Mitachurl that appear to unlock the switch, then use it to open the final path.
Upon reaching the top of the stairs, two Geovishaps will appear. They function like any other Geovishap, but the arena is much smaller than usual, making it easy to get cornered. This is where a healer or shields will be useful.
After defeating the Geovishaps, exit the domain to trigger another cutscene. Speak with Yanfei, Yelan, Itto, and Shinobu for the last part of the quest. Completing this will reward you with:
- 700 Adventure EXP
- 31,125 Mora
- 3 Hero’s Wit
- 6 Mystic Enhancement Ore
Perilous Trail: Danger All Around
Phase three of Perilous Trail begins similarly to phase two. Advance the in-game clock to the next day, and after a cutscene plays, you will proceed to find the entrance to another domain, the City of Hidden Runes.
The domain recommends bringing a Geo character, and it’s also beneficial to include a healer and a character who can help maintain high energy levels for your party. Elemental abilities will significantly ease the battles within, and having a character with a claymore can be advantageous.
This quest also features numerous cutscenes, so ensure you have ample time to complete it.
Danger All Around Puzzle Solutions
Once inside, you will see a large platform with four symbols corresponding to the elements: Anemo, Hydro, Geo, and Electro, each with a portal nearby. Take note of the symbols and choose the corresponding portal.
You will be transported to another platform filled with symbols on the floor. Your task is to step on five symbols that match the one on the main platform while defeating any enemies that appear and using the Lightshaper devices in the center. The beams from the Lightshapers must connect with two matching symbols.
Blue Symbol
- After stepping on the five symbols, you will face three Geovishap Hatchlings.
Purple Symbol
- You will encounter a Stonehide Lawachurl.
Green Symbol
- This battle is the most challenging, as two Geovishaps will appear after stepping on the correct green symbols. They will infuse themselves with Pyro and Electro once their health drops below a certain threshold. Using a Geo character is crucial here, as their fields will deal continuous damage.
Brown Symbol
- After activating the brown symbols, you will face three Mitachurls with stone shields. Use strong elemental attacks or a claymore character to defeat them.
Jump Into the Breach and Investigate the Door
Another cutscene will play. After it ends, head back to the center platform and jump into the newly opened breach. After the next cutscene, interact with the door. Walk forward until you see a glowing shape on the floor, and interact with it.
From here, simply follow the quest prompts, speaking to everyone when asked, viewing the following cutscene, and speaking to everyone again to complete the quest. You will earn:
- 1,125 Adventure EXP
- 49,200 Mora
- 5 Hero’s Wit
- 9 Mystic Enhancement Ore
The second stage in Realms of Guile and War will also unlock, along with the final quest of Perilous Trail, End of the Line.
