Enter the jail with the holding cells and talk to Romeo, Caesar’s brother. Place the case file next to the third question, “Why was Caesar murdered?” We’ll need to find two other items to answer the other two questions.
Search the room for two clues, then combine them to find a way to unlock the cell next to Romeo’s. The person inside is passed out, so we’ll leave him for now.
Head to the Forensics lab. Open the body bag and all cabinets and drawers that will open. Collect the fire extinguisher, cotton swabs, thermometer, smelling salts, and bloody letter opener. Check the poster on reviving someone who’s unconscious, and look at the password-protected PC. A note on the wall gives this formula:
- Time of Death = (Tn – Td)/r
- Tn = Normal temperature (98.6°F)
- Td = Dead temperature
- r = Rate of temperature loss (1.4°F per hour)
Use the thermometer on the body and note the temperature, which should be 79°F. Also, use a cotton swab to collect a sample of Caesar’s blood. Smash the piggy bank with the fire extinguisher, then pick up the coin.
Place the cotton swab and bloody letter opener into the DNA analyzer. Solve the puzzle by matching DNA pairs (A pairs with T, and C pairs with G) to complete the sequence. The DNA will match, and a Murder Weapon Report will print. Take it from the printer.
Now, turn to the PC for a password puzzle similar to the Mastermind game. You guess four letters, and the game provides hints about how many are correct. I got the password as ADFC in one try, but it varies. Check the examples provided for help.
On the PC, enter 79 as the dead temperature and 1.4 as the rate of temperature loss. The computer will calculate that Caesar died 14 hours ago, around 9 PM the previous night. Print the Time of Death Report. Lastly, mix the smelling salts with water in the sprayer to activate them.
Return to the cells, talk to Romeo, and show him the Time of Death Report and Murder Weapon Report. He’ll start trusting you more.
Use the activated smelling salts on the unconscious prisoner to wake him up, but he won’t talk until he gets chocolate. Use the coin at the vending machine. The chocolate slot labels are missing, but based on the sequence, select A4 to get a chocolate bar. Give it to Lansky, who asks for more.
The next bar is at B8 (following the sequence 2, 4, 8, 16). Give it to Lansky, and he still wants more!
For the next one, use multiples of 5: C5, then C10, C20, and finally C35. Give it to Lansky, who asks for one last piece.
The final chocolate is in the D row, where each is the sum of the numbers in A, B, and C above. Select D25 for the last bar. Give it to Lansky, and he and Romeo will start talking. That completes the chapter!
