Do not follow the next Story marker immediately in Atelier Ryza 2. The safer completion rhythm is to finish the active ruin’s Diary work, return to Ashra-am Baird until the current event backlog is clear, log any new Party Quests, and only then advance. Story, reputation, character events, Party Quests, and the Skill Tree move on different triggers; letting one fall several ruins behind turns the ending into a hunt for missing conditions.
This roadmap keeps those systems together without pretending that character scenes follow a fixed calendar. It shows what each ruin should leave behind, when to sweep the capital, which objectives combine cleanly, and how to use Game Clear Data without replaying the campaign.
Use the same return rhythm after every ruin
When the story sends Ryza back to her atelier, do not synthesize only the highlighted plot item and leave. Work through these four states before the next expedition:
- Open Story and Exploration Diary first. Confirm the current objective, then inspect the active ruin’s Research List. A story marker can move on while optional clue sets remain unfinished.
- Scan the world map for character portraits and question marks. Character events may appear under Story, while residents such as Karina, Dolaria, Rune, Rook, and Cucarissa can appear under Quests with a generic question-mark marker.
- Visit the Cafe board. Board requests raise group reputation. Reputation changes which requests appear, can open gathering points, and can provide shop discounts; it is also a hidden prerequisite for several resident chains.
- Read newly arrived Party Quests. They occur automatically and award passive skills. Their arrival timing is not a deterministic chapter list, so log the objective when it appears instead of waiting for a guide’s exact moment.
- Spend SP and prepare the next field action. Ruin mysteries expose new Skill Tree branches. If a recipe or tool remains locked, the missing cause may be an unfinished Diary set rather than a lack of SP.
- Sleep until morning, change areas, and scan once more. Many resident events need time to pass or an NPC who is absent at night. This second scan catches events that were queued behind the one you just watched.
If the next ruin is available while several capital districts still show portraits or question marks, you have a backlog. You may continue the story, but note the last open character or resident chain first so the next wave does not hide its real prerequisite.
What each ruin must leave behind
The Diary itself is the reliable counter. Use the named sets shown in your save and take every required one to 100% before the final battle; a claimed total can change depending on whether a checklist counts the tutorial and final return separately.
| Story stop | What to finish before moving on | What usually blocks progress |
|---|---|---|
| Mausoleum of Eternity tutorial return | Follow the Compass of Recollection, collect the tutorial area’s remaining Memory Vestiges and blue Ruin Fragment, solve the first Diary entries, then learn and synthesize the Woodcutter’s Axe. The solved tutorial awards a large SP injection and opens recipes including the axe. | If the Sensor Map is not useful yet, complete the Research List prompts first. If the axe recipe is missing after the tutorial, re-open the Diary and resolve the entries rather than farming SP blindly. |
| Maiden’s Catacombs | Clear the Research List, sweep all accessible floors, make the Emerald Band and Air Drop when their recipes arrive, repair the bell through the Diary recipe, defeat the Elegant Spirit Beast, and use the resulting Spirit Beast Whistle to finish the map. Return after each tool unlock for fragments that were previously unreachable. | A visible fragment behind a traversal point is a return marker, not proof that the route is broken. Make the required adventure item in the atelier, equip it, and revisit before declaring the set finished. |
| Sunken City of Stars | Equip the Air Drop before entering. Work the Research List through exploration, enemies, chests, and Star Fragments; use Mana Liquid where the story requires it; speak to the Starchild again after major steps; synthesize the Nebula Core unlocked through the Diary; then return and clear every remaining clue set. | If the Compass will not activate, a Research task is still open. If a final memory seems absent, recheck the Starchild and any route opened by the newly synthesized story item. |
| Ancient Mana Workshop | Recruit Serri on the approach, obtain and use the Mana Lantern, complete the workshop’s research tasks, solve the Sun Door clue, make the Custom Flame Crystal, and burn the blocked route. After Lent joins and the boss falls, collect the final Fragment, finish the Diary, and open the central reward that exposes Core Drive progression. | The Custom Flame Crystal can fail at the cauldron if your axe cannot gather the required Ember Stone tier. Upgrade the tool and verify the material in the in-game guide before repeating the recipe. |
| Mirage Land | Arrive with an Emerald Band that can use yellow crystals. Complete the Research List, solve enough Diary clues to learn Awakening Incense, make it, clear the fog, and take all accessible fragments before fighting Mirage Lizard. The boss supplies the last route-dependent piece; finish the Diary before leaving the region behind. | A yellow connection that will not accept the Band means the effect on the synthesized item is insufficient. This is an alchemy state, not a missing jump. |
| Dragonbone Valley | Clear the research tasks, obtain the Dragon Device Blood recipe from the Diary, synthesize it to open Cold Moon Cavern, and defeat Huge Phalanx. Search behind the boss area before leaving, then return after the city story scene for memories that were not present on the first pass. Resolve every remaining clue. | If the Diary is short after the boss, do not assume the missing pieces are elsewhere in the world. The documented route includes a post-story revisit to the same boss region. |
| Ethereal Dragon’s Coffin | Complete its Research List, use the Underworld Crystal and other late materials to finish outstanding synthesis chains, make another Awakening Incense when the route calls for it, and sweep every Fragment, Crystal, and Vestige before the Gate Room. Finish the merged Mausoleum/final-area Diary state before facing Legendary Monarch. | The final boss marker is not a completion signal for the ruin. If Research List or Diary entries remain open, turn around before crossing the boss threshold. |
The stable ruin loop is Research List first, Compass second, fragments and memories third, Diary matching fourth, synthesis fifth, then a return pass. Blue marks are Ruin Fragments, red marks are Ruin Crystals, and yellow marks are Memory Vestiges. The Sensor Map narrows their positions as Ryza approaches. Wrong clue assignments are safer than leaving a clue untouched: the game rejects a bad match immediately.
Spend city returns on event waves
Character chains do not all unlock on recruitment, and some events need a day or area change after the previous scene. Treat the following as earliest reliable cleanup windows rather than a rigid schedule.
| Window | Who and what to check | Why this pause matters |
|---|---|---|
| First atelier and Mausoleum return | Start Tao, Patty, Bos, Romy, Zephine, Cassandra, Pamila, Karina, Rune, and the early resident introductions as their markers appear. Unlock the Cafe board and begin every reputation group available to you. | These introductions seed later cross-chain prerequisites. A scene-only request can be the real gate for a synthesis request many hours later. |
| Maiden’s Catacombs city breaks | Recheck Klaudia, Clifford, Dennis, Tao, Patty, Romy, and the resident chains after Klaudia and Clifford join. Make Air Drop and other newly learned items before the second scan. | Several events appear only after the party changes or after a synthesis step. One map scan before crafting is not enough. |
| Sunken City complete | Check Clifford’s Partner, Zephine’s Interested?, and any delayed Klaudia or city events. Raise reputation while you are back at the Cafe. | This is a useful buffer before the workshop creates the largest event wave. |
| Ancient Mana Workshop complete | Run every capital district. This milestone opens or advances Lent, Tao, Patty, Clifford, Bos, Zephine, Dennis, Romy, Cassandra, Rune, and Madame Maid/Thomas work. Serri’s fuller chain is also safe to pursue here. | Skipping this sweep causes multiple character arcs and reputation chains to stack behind one another. |
| Bridge to Glass Flower Forest grown | Look again for Lent, Tao, Patty, Serri, Bos, and Zephine. Several chains explicitly use this story objective as their next gate. | The bridge is a quest trigger as well as a route unlock. Crossing it and never returning to the city hides that relationship. |
| Mirage Land and Dragonbone Valley complete | Finish Serri’s late events, Tao’s wall-mural-linked event, Clifford’s Crystal Cave work, and the later Dolaria chain. Dennis’s final work can require materials and recipes from the final dungeon. | Do not grind Dennis’s missing marker before Underworld Crystal and the Grand Orgen route exist. |
The original Steam list gives separate completion achievements for Klaudia, Zephine, Cassandra, Patty, Bos, Lent, Tao, Dennis, Clifford, Serri, and Romy. Use the in-game event list plus the registered platform achievement as the finish state for each chain; a remembered scene count is not as reliable.
If a quest marker does not appear
Before searching the whole map for a missing marker, diagnose it in this order:
- Clock: sleep until morning. Some NPCs disappear at night, and several events need at least a day after the previous one. Leave the district and return after sleeping.
- Chain: finish earlier work for the same giver. If the event belongs to Dolaria, Karina, Rune, Rook, Cucarissa, or Madame Maid, also check the cross-chain gates below.
- Story milestone: compare your progress with Mausoleum, Maiden’s Catacombs, Sunken City, Ancient Mana Workshop, the Glass Flower Forest bridge, Mirage Land, and Dragonbone Valley. “Visited” and “finished the story events” are not interchangeable.
- Reputation: inspect every group at the Cafe and complete board work until the required star level is reached. Board stock changes with Ryza’s level and reputation, so re-open it after other progress.
- Menu: switch between Story and Quests. Named character arcs can live in Story while resident work appears in Quests under a generic marker.
If a marker still does not appear, record the last completed quest in that chain and the current reputation stars. That state is more useful than repeatedly entering districts at random.
Finish Party Quests in compatible batches

Party Quest arrival timing can vary, but the original-release objectives remain visible in the Party Quest menu. When a new batch appears, pair it with a compatible target: durable enemies for Tactics and Shift Skills, weak enemies for formation wins, and a single synthesis session for category counts.
| Character | Four Party Quest objectives | Efficient batch |
|---|---|---|
| Ryza | Aimed Strike: use 20 Core Items (Vitality I). Defense Breaker: stun 10 enemies after the quest appears around level 20 (Aggression I). Ready, Go!: start 30 field battles by striking enemies with gathering tools (Perseverance I). Alchemy Compilation: synthesize Philosopher’s Stone (Velocity I). | Use Core Items and work on stuns against enemies sturdy enough to survive. For Ready, Go!, the battle only needs to start; escape and strike again if you want the short route. |
| Klaudia | With My Friend: win 15 fights with Ryza, Klaudia, and Patty together (Vitality I). Benevolent Heart: synthesize 5 Food items; purchases do not count (Perseverance I). Battle Rhythm: reach Tactics Level 3 ten times (Velocity I). Archery Training: use 20 Shift Skills (Velocity II). | Put Klaudia in support, use skills to reach Tactics 3, then swap her in for the Shift Skill. Do the 15 formation wins on weak highway enemies after the action objectives are done. |
| Tao | Improving Strength: synthesize 5 Medicine items (Aggression II). Imitating Empel’s Skills: trigger Tao’s Action Order 10 times while not controlling him (Aggression I). Sword Training Request: win 15 fights with Tao and Lent together (Perseverance I). New Super Move: use Tao’s Fatal Drive, Ultimate Misty Moon, twice after he learns it (Velocity I). | Use a durable enemy for Action Orders and Fatal Drive. Fatal Drive needs Tactics 5 and empties AP, so do not force it during a dangerous boss charge. |
| Patty | Learn from Your Enemies: defeat 10 Roadrunner-race enemies (Vitality I). My Way of Fighting: land 5 critical hits (Aggression I). Read the Battlefield: reach Tactics 5 three times (Aggression II). Fight Calmly: win 15 fights with Patty and Tao together (Velocity I). | Use Roadrunners in the Abandoned Mine Railway area for the race target, then keep Patty and Tao together while building Tactics against sturdier enemies. |
| Clifford | Find the Weakpoint: hit weaknesses 10 times with Clifford in the party (Aggression I). Fight More Efficiently: use Twist Spinner 10 times after the skill is learned (Perseverance I). Theft Technique: synthesize 5 Jewel items (Velocity I). Convenient Tool: synthesize 5 Magical Tool items (Velocity II). | Inspect enemy weaknesses in battle and select Clifford’s matching attack. Handle both crafting-category counts in the same atelier session; do not rely on an old guide’s guessed level for Twist Spinner. |
| Serri | Woodsoul Resonance: use Spirit Call 10 times (Vitality I). Ecology of Plants: gather 10 Plant materials with Serri in the party (Aggression I). Application in Battle: synthesize 10 Seed items (Perseverance I). Understand Nature: collect 120 different materials, not 120 total pickups (Perseverance II). | Keep Serri active during a new-area gathering sweep, then synthesize the Seed batch. A black question mark in a gathering result is a strong signal that the material is new to the guide. |
| Lent | Get Some Training: the party takes 500 total damage (Vitality I). Offensive Practice: perform 15 Perfect Guards (Vitality II). Reviewing Lila’s Teachings: defeat 10 Knight-race enemies with Lent in the party (Aggression I). Rehearsal: win 3 fights while someone is at low HP with Lent active or supporting (Perseverance I). | Build the low-HP state in a tougher area, then move to Meeresbrise Highway for three safe wins without returning to the atelier, which would restore HP. Practice Perfect Guards while setting up the damage total. |
Use action names rather than copied button glyphs. The official manual’s control pages were updated in 2024, and the correct input depends on platform and current key assignment.
Resident chains are gated by other residents
Most scene-only requests are quick. The following chains matter because they contain quality gates, time-of-day gates, reputation locks, or prerequisites in another person’s storyline.
| Chain | Dependencies worth recording | Execution note |
|---|---|---|
| Karina | Royal Student opens Plants, Please!; Comrades in Plants needs 10 Plant items at quality 40 or higher. Later scenes are tied to 2-star and 3-star Student reputation, and I Shall Overcome gates Dolaria’s Student Feedback. | If Bubble Grass is missing, check its current Material Guide entry and use an available sickle or gathering route instead of assuming it must wait for one specific mount spot. |
| Madame Maid and Thomas | Crying Out requires a Gnade Ring and opens Aristocrat reputation. Trade Problems sends you after the quest Giant Sheep. Being Watched? depends on 3-star Children reputation and Cucarissa’s A Stroke of Luck?, then asks for 3 Air Drops at quality 70 or higher. Business Plans uses 2-star Aristocrat reputation and 2 Rose Bombs at quality 80 or higher. | Deliver during daytime or morning when the NPC is present. Complete Trade Problems promptly because Dolaria’s New Info waits for it. |
| Cucarissa | Local Housewife follows the Romy/Shop Development introduction and opens Citizen reputation. A Miner’s Best Friend opens Artisan reputation; A New Discovery! needs a Samasten Necklace; A Stroke of Luck? follows the 3-star Artisan gate and feeds Madame Maid’s chain. | Make all four Bombs for A Miner’s Best Friend at quality 50 or higher, then confirm the quantity and threshold shown by the live objective before delivery. |
| Dolaria | Finish Pamila’s Mysterious Adventurer, then follow Suspicious Trio and New Member? to open Bandit reputation. Later gates include 3-star Citizens for A New Goal, 2-star Bandits for Following a Rumor, Trade Problems for New Info, I Shall Overcome for Student Feedback, a night visit to Meeresbrise Highway for Alchemy Clue, and a quality-100 Ancient Scroll for Another Clue. | Use quality 31 or higher for the New Member? accessory. Towering Ruins & A Voice Calls Out contains two steps: enter Phantasm Forest, then defeat Phantom Tail near the western lake. The next quest collects 3 Ancient Fragments in Slumbering River Valley. |
| Rune and Rook | Rune’s Helpful Helper opens Children reputation; later requests use 8 Sidewalk Grass, a quality-80 Nectar, and 10 Cocktail Leb. Rook’s active tasks include 5 Food items, Ashra Milk, and a daytime Mega Wyvern fight in Windmuhle Valley. | Make Honey at quality 31 or higher and the 5 Food items at quality 50 or higher, then compare them with the live objective. Duplicate the 10 Cocktail Leb with the Multiplicauldron instead of repeating a costly recipe ten times. |
Do not treat this table as a substitute for the live quest text. Once an objective is visible in your client, its quantity, category, and quality requirement are the values to follow.
Build the alchemy finish line before a 999 item

Do not begin the 999-quality attempt with an end product. First make the systems that let quality circulate:
- Finish Diary sets and buy quality-cap nodes. The Skill Tree exposes Max Quality 300 and 600 through ruin-fragment analysis before the 999 target becomes practical. Confirm that your current cap reaches 999 before investing rare materials; an excellent loop cannot exceed a locked cap.
- Raise Rebuild Level and maintain a gem supply. Item Rebuild consumes gems and cannot exceed Ryza’s current Rebuild Level. Rebuilding a finished item is useful only after the level ceiling is high enough.
- Unlock Recipe Morph and Essence. Recipe Morph turns one recipe into another by filling its recipe node. Essence can change a Material Loop’s element or strengthen an effect on a matching loop, and it is also needed for several late tool effects.
- Create reusable high-quality intermediates. Neutralizers, Zettel, Traveler’s Water Orb, and Crystal Element can feed many categories. Transfer Quality, Quality+, and High Quality traits where the recipe permits them, but prioritize actual displayed quality and category fit over a copied trait list.
- Morph toward the finish item. The verified Philosopher’s Stone chain is Mixing Oil -> Alchemy Paint -> Spirit Bottle -> Crystal Element -> Philosopher’s Stone. Build quality in the earlier recipes, then carry it forward rather than starting cold at the final recipe.
If the loop stalls, inspect the category of every reusable ingredient and the cap shown in the current Skill Tree. Use the in-game Material Guide to locate a missing category instead of relying on a fixed farming shortcut; tool effects and unlocked gathering routes decide what your save can collect.
Keep these completion targets separate:
- Breaking the Limit: create an item at quality 999.
- Seasoned Alchemist: create an item at item level 99; this is not the same value as quality.
- Alchemy Compilation achievement: unlock the full alchemy Skill Tree. Synthesis and completed Diary sets are the dependable SP engines.
- All Crystal Connection: refine Lightning Essence and use it on the Emerald Band’s connection loop so the effect advances beyond yellow to all crystal colors.
- Adventure and gathering tools: verify the advanced fishing rod, bomb rod, sickle, axe, and bug net alongside Emerald Band, Spirit Beast Whistle, Air Drop, and Mana Lantern, then use the platform achievement as the final check.
Choose Before Legendary Monarch for post-game cleanup
Before entering the Legendary Monarch gate, make a manual save and run one last Diary/Research List check. The boss has a faster second phase and can chain a multi-element attack after shedding its shell. Keep AP available when it charges: Fatal Drive consumes all AP and resets Tactics Level to 1, so spending it for spectacle can remove the resources needed to break or recover.
After Legendary Monarch, the game sends Ryza through the capital for farewell scenes and then the ending. At FIN, create Game Clear Data. When loading it, choose Before “Legendary Monarch” for cleanup. This returns to the pre-boss state while allowing unfinished character events, resident quests, synthesis, Diary work, and the optional superboss to continue. Choose New Game+ only when you actually want a new campaign; it carries Cole, Gold Coins, equipment and Core Items, and Shop Development into a restart.
Game Clear Data also opens post-game difficulty and Extras options. The official 2021 update later added LEGEND after the main story, while the base clear-data description in older walkthrough material names Very Hard and Charismatic. Treat the difficulty names visible in your updated client as authoritative. None of this requires turning an unfinished first save into New Game+ just to clean a missing event.
The save is ready to close when these observable states agree:
- Every named Exploration Diary set from Mausoleum of Eternity through Ethereal Dragon’s Coffin is resolved to 100%, and the Research List has no open requirement.
- The platform achievements for all named character-event chains have registered.
- Every reputation group is at its maximum, not merely one group.
- All 28 Party Quests listed in the seven character groups are cleared and their passive skills appear.
- The advanced gathering tools and four story adventure tools are present; Emerald Band accepts every crystal color.
- The Skill Tree is filled, one item has reached quality 999, a separate item has reached item level 99, and Essence/Evolution Link/Core Drive cleanup is finished.
- Required decorations and accessories have been collected through quests, shops, and Puni results; update-only roast rewards and the secret Beautiful Portrait are not needed for the base decoration trophy according to the bounded checklist used here.
- Legendary Monarch, the Game Clear Data optional boss, and the remaining platform-specific achievements have been verified in the live list. On Steam, the original release exposes 49 achievements.
If one state is still open, load Before “Legendary Monarch”, fix that state, and save again. Start New Game+ only after the original save no longer contains work you intend to finish.
The verified game page for this scope is Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy on Steam.
