Palworld 1.0 Guide: Progression Route, Bases, Towers, and Endgame Cleanup

Official Palworld screenshot showing riders exploring Palpagos near a tower

Palworld 1.0 is not the same progression game that many 2024 walkthroughs describe. The full release rebuilt the main-mission flow, raised the level cap to 80, added Sunreach and the World Tree, changed capture bonuses and condensation, reworked more than 200 Partner Skills, and shortened Tower Boss fights to five minutes. A clean route now matters more than memorizing an old level list.

This guide gives you a practical first-save path from the opening tutorial to the World Tree, with base priorities, tower order, technology planning, collectible cleanup, and the 1.0 rules most likely to trip up a returning player. It avoids story details beyond area and boss names until the clearly marked endgame section.

The best route alternates missions, map infrastructure, base upgrades, and captures instead of grinding any one system in isolation.

Palworld 1.0 Route at a Glance

Stage Main Goal Do Before Moving On
Opening and tutorial Follow the Main Mission chain, establish a simple base, and defeat the Rayne Syndicate tower. Catch five of several easy species, unlock nearby travel points, make a shield, and prepare a Fire option for the first tower.
Forest and early islands Clear the Free Pal Alliance section while improving transport, food, medicine, and ore production. Have a reliable mount, a varied combat party, spare spheres, and a base that can keep producing while you explore.
Volcano and desert Follow the mission route through the Eternal Pyre and PIDF towers. Carry the correct climate protection, upgrade armor and shield, and stop relying on one damage element.
Astral Mountains Prepare for the Pal Genetic Research Unit tower and stronger Alpha Pals. Build ammunition reserves, improve food buffs, and bring a team that can survive while you reposition.
Sakurajima and Feybreak Clear the Moonflower and Feybreak tower arcs and upgrade late-game production. Work on oil, high-tier spheres, schematics, expeditions, and a separate raid-safe combat site.
Sunreach Complete the Azure Covenant tower, gather Soralite, and finish the prerequisites for the World Tree. Reach the level-80 endgame with current gear, not merely a high character level and obsolete equipment.
World Tree and cleanup Resolve the final mission chain, gather Paloxite and Radiant Gems, then clean achievements and optional challenges. Keep a pre-finale backup, finish all tower keys, and separate story completion from raid, Arena, fishing, and collection goals.

The guiding rule: let the current Main Mission tell you which region comes next. Old guides often encourage free-form tower clearing, but 1.0 connects tower progress to a rebuilt story and resets main and sub-mission progress on upgraded saves. You can explore freely; you should not assume that defeating a late tower early will advance every earlier mission correctly.

Fresh Save or Existing World?

Pocketpair explicitly recommends a fresh character for the full 1.0 experience, although existing saves remain supported. A fresh start is the cleanest choice if you want the new story pacing, revised habitats, new opening progression, and rebalanced rewards to arrive in their intended order.

Keeping an old world is reasonable if the base itself is your main investment. Before loading it:

  1. Back up the world and player save data. Do this before the first 1.0 load, not after a problem appears.
  2. Remove old mods and mod loaders manually. Merely toggling a mod off may leave files that still load. Pocketpair warned that old mod data can cause crashes, corrupted saves, or blocked quests.
  3. Verify the game files. On Steam, use Properties, Installed Files, then Verify integrity of game files.
  4. Launch unmodded first. Confirm the world loads and missions work before adding any mod that has been updated specifically for 1.0.
  5. Expect mission progress to look different. Main and sub-mission progress was reset for the new reward flow. Some tutorial and tower missions may auto-complete from recorded boss defeats.

If an old v0.7.3-or-earlier character appears outside the revised world boundary, use Emergency Escape from the Options menu. Do not try to cross the boundary manually while carrying important loot.

Your First Hour: A Clean Start

  1. Read the world settings before committing. Normal difficulty no longer drops equipped items on death in newly configured worlds, and 1.0 also exposes useful controls for Work Speed and ranch production. Choose convenience deliberately rather than copying an extreme farming preset.
  2. Follow the tutorial Main Missions. They teach the current order of gathering, crafting, Pal assignment, capture, and base upgrades. Old checklists can send you toward systems before their current mission hooks appear.
  3. Build a temporary base on flat ground. The first base needs room for a Palbox, beds, a feed box, storage, a workbench, logging, stone, and early food. It does not need to be your forever home.
  4. Catch broadly, five at a time. In 1.0, the capture bonus completes after five captures of a species instead of twelve. Catching many easy species is usually faster and more productive than farming one Alpha repeatedly.
  5. Spend early stat points on friction. Weight and Stamina improve nearly every trip. A little Work Speed helps before your base workforce matures. Add Health when tower damage starts punishing mistakes; pure Attack is rarely the best first investment.
  6. Activate travel infrastructure as you pass it. Great Eagle Statues remain valuable, while new Watchtowers reveal the surrounding map and also function as fast-travel points.
  7. Carry a capture kit. Keep spheres, food, a repair option, a shield, and at least two weapon types ready. Returning to base because you ran out of spheres beside a rare Pal wastes more time than any optimized leveling trick saves.
  8. Prepare for the first tower as a damage check. Bring a Fire Pal or Fire damage against the Grass-aligned first encounter, upgrade your shield, repair everything, and enter with enough ammunition for a five-minute fight.

How to Level Without Turning the Game Into a Grind

The efficient loop is missions + five-capture bonuses + new areas + bosses you were already passing. It moves every progression system at once:

  • Main and sub-missions provide direction, experience, and access to new regions.
  • The first five captures of each species fill the revised capture bonus quickly.
  • New areas, Watchtowers, and travel points reduce future travel time.
  • Alpha Pals and dungeon bosses provide experience and materials; capture them when practical instead of automatically killing them.
  • Ancient Ruins add short exploration or minigame objectives with schematics as potential rewards.
  • Dungeons combine an Alpha fight with end chests, so they are best cleared when their region is already on your route.

Do not spend an hour catching twelve copies because a 2024 guide told you to. The 1.0 capture threshold is five. After the bonus is complete, keep extra copies only when you need passives, breeding parents, base workers, or condensation material.

Exploration is progression: every useful route should open travel, add captures, reveal resources, or advance a mission.

Build a Base That Solves Problems

A beautiful base can wait. Your early base should prevent repeated manual chores. Arrange it around flow:

Zone What Belongs There Why
Palbox and arrival Clear walking space, repair access, a small dump chest, and no tall clutter. Fast travel and Pal deployment should never trap you inside furniture or production lines.
Raw materials Logging, stone, ore or later extractors, with dedicated storage beside output. Short hauling routes prevent Transport Pals from wasting most of the day walking.
Crafting Workbenches and assembly lines near material storage and electricity. Related facilities share supplies and are easier to monitor when grouped.
Food and welfare Planting, watering, harvesting, cooking, feed box, beds, hot springs, and medicine. A productive base collapses if hunger, SAN, injury, or bad food access removes workers.
Breeding Breeding Farm, incubation, cake storage, and Palbox access. Breeding is inventory-heavy; keep it out of the main hauling lane.

Use specialists for bottlenecks. Work Suitability now extends to level 10 and all Pal values were rebalanced, so an old “best worker” chart may no longer reflect 1.0. Judge a worker by the current Pal details screen, travel time, hunger, and whether it keeps abandoning the job for a second suitability.

Ranking a Pal is also less punishing. The requirement to reach maximum rank was reduced from 116 Pals to 48. That makes a favorite combat Pal or high-value specialist a realistic mid-to-late-game investment, but it is still wasteful to condense random workers before you know which passive and suitability combination you want.

A good base is a logistics system. Short routes and reliable specialists matter more than filling every available slot.

Technology and Resource Priorities

Technology Points are abundant enough to support progression but scarce enough that buying every decorative unlock immediately can delay a saddle, shield, production machine, or weapon tier. Prioritize by dependency:

  1. Survival: shield, climate gear, food, beds, medicine, and repair access.
  2. Capture: the current sphere tier and the production chain that feeds it.
  3. Mobility: a ground mount, a flying mount when available, gliding, and the relevant saddle or Pal Gear.
  4. Production: ore, ingots, electricity, better workbenches, assembly lines, and appropriate storage.
  5. Combat: a current weapon, armor, shield, and enough ammunition to sustain a tower attempt.
  6. Expansion: breeding, expeditions, oil, advanced materials, and late-game ancient technology.

Save schematics until you understand the new system. Accessories are now crafted from schematics rather than found as ordinary physical upgrades, and the old +1/+2 accessory ladder was removed. Schematics can come from chests, Ancient Ruins, oil rigs, and other high-value activities. Dedicated Fire and Poison Arrow weapons were also removed from the Technology tree; compatible bows now switch arrow types.

Late in the game, the Wing Pack offers free-form flight by consuming Wing Cells without occupying a Pal slot. It is valuable, but it is not a reason to ignore mounts: mounts still provide travel, combat skills, elemental utility, carrying help, and access long before the advanced pack economy is comfortable.

Tower Boss Order in 1.0

The current story route leads through eight regional tower encounters before the World Tree finale. Follow the matching Main Mission and local NPC chain rather than flying directly to a tower you spotted online.

Order Tower Boss Pair Preparation Check
1 Rayne Syndicate Zoe and Grizzbolt Fire damage, repaired gear, a shield, and a party that will attack consistently.
2 Free Pal Alliance Lily and Lyleen Better ranged uptime, elemental counterplay, and enough food to avoid arriving hungry.
3 Brothers of the Eternal Pyre Axel and Orserk Heat protection for the route, current armor, and safe answers to Electric pressure.
4 PIDF Marcus and Faleris Reliable Water damage, steady ammunition production, and clean dodge timing.
5 Pal Genetic Research Unit Victor and Shadowbeak Dragon pressure, cold protection for the approach, strong sustain, and no under-tier weapon.
6 Moonflower Saya and Selyne Late-game gear, a durable party, and enough mobility to keep damage up while avoiding area attacks.
7 Feybreak Bjorn and Bastigor Top regional equipment, upgraded Pals, and a plan for prolonged high-damage patterns.
8 Azure Covenant, Sunreach Auri and Shaolong Level-80 trajectory, Sunreach materials, current spheres, and a finished late-game combat build.

Important 1.0 change: every normal Tower Boss now has a five-minute limit instead of ten, with stats adjusted for the shorter battle. This rewards continuous damage more than extreme defensive stalling. Hard Mode tower access now requires defeating the Azure Covenant Tower boss, so the Sunreach tower is part of the full tower-completion route.

A Five-Minute Tower Checklist

  • Repair weapons, armor, and shield before entering.
  • Carry more ammunition than your previous failed attempt used.
  • Use one food buff for the player and one appropriate food plan for the party rather than entering hungry.
  • Match elements where possible, but do not field a fragile counter that spends the fight incapacitated.
  • Teach Pals current Active Skills. Nearly all skills were rebalanced, so an old “best moves” list may be wrong.
  • Use the new attack command when target selection fails: aim at the enemy and press the mouse wheel or right stick.
  • Recall a Pal before a telegraphed lethal hit, then redeploy after the danger passes.
  • If the timer expires with a large health bar remaining, upgrade damage and uptime; repeated perfect dodging will not fix a gear check.

The five-minute tower limit turns every boss into a build check as well as a survival check.

Party Building After the 1.0 Rebalance

Build for roles, not a single tier list. A useful exploration party usually covers:

  • Primary combat Pal: your strongest reliable damage dealer with current skills.
  • Elemental counter: a second attacker selected for the region or tower.
  • Mobility: ground or flying travel until the Wing Pack economy is established.
  • Utility: carrying, gliding, detection, healing, item drops, or a defensive Partner Skill.
  • Capture control: a Pal or weapon plan that can weaken targets without accidentally killing them.

Almost all same-species Partner Skill effects no longer stack. Five copies of a familiar carry or damage Pal may therefore do less than an old guide promises. Read the exact current Partner Skill values and combine complementary effects. The 1.0 rebalance specifically encourages synergies such as weapon support, status setup, elemental amplification, defense, and gathering utility.

Breeding is for refinement, not for skipping the entire adventure. First secure food, cake production, incubation, and enough Palbox room. Then breed for a clear job: a mount, a tower attacker, a raid force, or a base specialist. Mutation can occasionally produce an egg with stronger stats and a unique passive; special cakes can influence egg count, stat quality, mutation chance, or passive inheritance. Do not burn rare cake ingredients before choosing the parent pair and the trait you actually want.

Alpha Pals, Dungeons, Ruins, and Schematics

Use optional activities as targeted farms:

Activity Best Reason to Do It Common Mistake
Alpha Pal Specific Pal, experience, materials, and a possible schematic source from selected bosses. Killing a wanted Pal with uncontrolled follow-up damage instead of preparing a capture.
Random dungeon Boss capture, end chests, manuals, Skill Fruits, and region-appropriate loot. Clearing every cave immediately even when its rewards do not solve a current bottleneck.
Ancient Ruin Exploration, minigame rewards, and schematic chances. Assuming it uses an old dungeon layout; ruins are a distinct 1.0 activity.
Oil rig Advanced loot and schematic hunting once your combat build can survive the defense. Bringing valuable gear before you can reliably handle turrets and defenders.
Wildlife Sanctuary Unique Pals, rare materials, and powerful bosses in the overhauled sanctuaries. Treating the 1.0 versions like the small, lightly defended old islands; drones and searchlights now patrol them.

Mark an open dungeon, rare resource cluster, Skill Fruit tree, or important Alpha on the map when you cannot stop. The marker is a promise to your future route, not a command to interrupt the current mission.

Sunreach and the World Tree

Endgame spoilers begin here.

Sunreach is not an early sightseeing destination. It is the floating-island endgame region that introduces its own Pals, tower content, settlements, and Soralite. The World Tree follows as the story climax and adds Paloxite, Ancient Civilization Relics, Radiant Gems, Awakening, and the final mission chain.

A safe endgame order is:

  1. Complete every earlier regional tower through Feybreak.
  2. Enter Sunreach through its mission route and activate local travel infrastructure before chasing every new Pal.
  3. Defeat the Azure Covenant tower and confirm that all eight tower Key Spheres or their current mission equivalents are accounted for.
  4. Upgrade equipment with Sunreach resources and finish any mission that gates the World Tree.
  5. Enter the World Tree with open Palbox space, high-tier spheres, repair materials, and a party prepared for level-80 threats.
  6. Gather Radiant Gems for Awakening and Paloxite for the new equipment economy instead of spending every trip rushing the final marker.
  7. Make a backup before the last mission sequence if you want an easy recovery point for testing builds or revisiting the finale.

The World Tree is also where “completion” splits into several tracks. Finishing the story does not automatically finish Awakening, mutations, region effigies, Arena ranks, raids, fishing, expeditions, Alpha hunting, or schematic collection.

Achievement and Collectible Cleanup

Steam currently lists 75 achievements for Palworld 1.0. Some track actions retroactively, while others are cleaner when planned from the start. Keep a simple checklist in five groups:

Group Examples Best Timing
Story and towers Regional Sovereign achievements, reaching the World Tree, and the story finale. Follow the normal Main Mission route; avoid using an old out-of-order tower checklist.
Paldeck and raising Species milestones, 1,000 total captures, maximum rank, Trust level 10, mutation, and Awakening. Catch five per species during progression; save mass breeding and ranking for chosen targets.
Exploration Area discovery, dungeons, treasure maps, Notes, and region-specific Pal Effigy sets. Collect visible items during the story, then sweep region by region with late-game mobility.
Combat and raids Alpha, Predator, raid boss, oil rig, enemy base, and other high-difficulty victories. After your production base can replace ammunition and damaged gear without a long recovery.
Long-form systems Arena ranks, fishing, expeditions, Pal Labor Research, large crafting totals, and faction-base clears. Track these early, but finish them after story infrastructure and automation are online.

The Pal Effigy system deserves special attention. 1.0 replaced the old single Lifmunk-only framing with effigies of multiple Pals that enhance player stats. Existing Lifmunk Effigies carry over, while the achievement list now includes regional sets such as Lamball, Pengullet, Munchill, Rooby, Herbil, Tanzee, Depresso, and Cattiva Effigies. Do not sell or ignore a new effigy because an old map does not list it.

Low-Stress Cleanup Order

  1. Finish the Main Mission and all eight regional towers.
  2. Open Watchtowers, Great Eagle Statues, and missing region discovery points.
  3. Complete capture bonuses and Paldeck gaps region by region.
  4. Sweep Pal Effigies, Notes, treasures, and dungeons with endgame mobility.
  5. Farm the schematics and materials needed for a stable raid and oil-rig build.
  6. Finish raids, enemy bases, Alpha/Predator targets, and difficult combat achievements.
  7. Run breeding, condensation, mutation, Awakening, and Trust goals in parallel with base production.
  8. Leave Arena rank, fishing totals, expedition totals, research, and bulk crafting for the final background grind.

Outdated Advice to Ignore

Old Advice 1.0 Reality
Catch 10 or 12 of every species for the full bonus. The capture bonus now completes after five.
You need 116 Pals to maximize one Pal’s rank. The maximum-rank requirement was reduced to 48.
Tower fights give you ten minutes. The normal tower limit is now five minutes, with boss stats rebalanced.
Five copies of the same Partner Skill always stack. Almost all same-species Partner Skill effects no longer stack.
Lifmunk Effigies are the only effigy collectible. Pal Effigies now cover multiple species and player-stat upgrades.
Accessories drop as +1 or +2 items. Accessories are crafted from schematics, and the +1/+2 system was removed.
Fire Bow and Poison Bow remain separate Technology unlocks. Compatible bows switch arrow type; the dedicated weapons were removed.
The old Pal habitat and Alpha coordinates are permanent. Habitats, boss placement, world boundaries, sanctuaries, and travel points were revised for 1.0.
The game ends after the old tower set. Sunreach, the Azure Covenant tower, and the World Tree complete the current story route.

Common Mistakes

  • Overbuilding the first base. A temporary flat logistics base is better than dismantling a giant wooden castle when production expands.
  • Unlocking every Technology node immediately. Keep points available for the next sphere, saddle, shield, weapon, and production dependency.
  • Letting every worker do four jobs. Bottlenecks disappear when the responsible Pal stays on the bottleneck.
  • Using a tower as a survival-only test. Five minutes means damage uptime, ammunition, and Partner Skill choice matter.
  • Entering a new climate with armor alone. Verify the actual resistance on current gear and bring food or accessories when the route demands them.
  • Building a raid altar beside your main storage. Use a disposable combat base or the separate raid battlefield so one failure does not destroy your economy.
  • Trusting old coordinates without checking the current map. 1.0 moved spawns and bosses, revised boundaries, and added new travel infrastructure.
  • Returning to mods before testing vanilla. Establish a known-good 1.0 save first, then add updated mods one at a time.

Video Progression Walkthrough

The video below is the user-supplied 1.0 progression walkthrough by Chaos Bear Gaming. Its YouTube title and channel were verified before embedding. Treat it as a visual companion for route decisions; for exact balance values, the live 1.0 changelog remains the stronger reference.

Final Pre-Tower Checklist

  • Current armor, shield, and weapon are repaired.
  • Ammunition comfortably exceeds one full five-minute attempt.
  • Party elements and Active Skills match the fight.
  • Food, hunger, and climate protection are handled.
  • Pal Gear and saddles required by the build are crafted.
  • Inventory has room for rewards.
  • A recent save backup exists before the Sunreach and World Tree endgame.
